"American Christianity"
The other day I was listening to a Christian Radio Station for a while and the Children's hour came on the station. There was a song that I'd never heard before with these lyrics in its content. "Esau saw the soup, Esau saw the soup. Jacob made a meal and he knew he had a deal, when Esau saw the soup."
I even tried to check this out online and couldn't find this song, it was so cute. The thing that caught my attention was just how powerful this simple message could be. It seems to imply rather strongly that someone could be bought if the right product is being offered.
We know that the right of the firstborn is a matter of serious consequence. As in this account, Esau trades away his right of blessing to his brother for a meal. While we can certainly review this account and see the outrageous error here, could it be that there's a message within for the lives of believers in our walk each day?
There's always a "crafty, deceiver" somewhere along the path. There's always something appealing to the eye, or some other arena of the senses that will be of interest to the flesh of man. We have to remember that the enemy of the child of God is Satan, and how he influences the "self" of mankind. As God's children, we must not be "ignorant of his devices."
If our eyes are looking in the right direction, if they are turned upon Jesus, we shouldn't fall prey to these many forms of deceit. We have to choose to feed our minds on things pure and good. In fact there's a Scripture in Philippians that helps us know just what to even think about.
This is really our job to do now in this earth as the body of Christ. He's taken care of our redemption. Now, as those redeemed before Him, we should purify ourselves as we walk through this life from day to day. Choosing proper thoughts and looking in the right places are necessary actions in this endeavor. It's only a hard thing to do, if we make it so.
Again, it's our choice. Esau saw the soup and he had to have it. What are we looking at today? Can that which is so precious in our lives (Jesus Christ) be traded for some pleasure in this world? Surely not!
I pray that you have a blessed week of encouragment in the things of the Lord. Here's a passage that will give us "something to think about."
Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things of good report; if there be any virture, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
Blessings,
Julie

"American Christianity"
Much is said by us as Americans about the American way or life, the American Dream, and what it means to be an American. We are quick to quote our Founders, the Constitution, and the sacrifices that it took to build this American experience.
I just wonder if we really realize how much we have changed from those Founding ideas that we so often hold up as are treasures?
A free society and it's governments are a reflection of the heart and views of it's people. Posted below are some court views on our laws regarding the precepts of Christianity. These courts are a product of our political system where "we the people" have chosen men and women to represent us and our interest, to convey our thoughts and desires, and build our society upon those tenets. To appoint Judges to positions by which these tenets can be implemented into our society; to govern and direct our lives according to those things by which we may pursue life, liberty, and happiness.
A verbal prayer offered in a school is unconstitutional, even if that prayer is both voluntary and denominational neutral. Engel v. Vitale, 1962.
It is unconstitutional for students to see the Ten Commandments since they might read, meditate upon, respect, or obey them. Stone v. Graham, 1980.
Posted below is the reflection of the society established by the "the people" of the United States through our political system. One which conveyed their views a few years back, by way of representation through their elected officials, who then appointed Judges in their time, to implement those ideas by which they deemed important in achieving their dream and pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.
City Council of Charleston v. S. A. Benjamin, 2 Strob. 508, 518-520 (Supreme Court of South Carolina 1846.)
Christianity is a part of the common law of the land, with liberty of conscience to all. It has always been so recognized. . . . If Christianity is a part of the common law, its disturbance is punishable at common law. The U. S. Constitution allows it as a part of the common law. The President is allow ten days [to sign a bill], with the exception of Sunday. The Legislature does not sit, public offices are closed, and Government recognizes the day in all things. . . . The observance of Sunday is one of the usages of the common law recognized by our U. S. and State Governments. . . . Christianity is part and parcel of the common law. . . . Christianity has reference to the principles of right and wrong . . . it is the foundation of those morals and manners upon which our society is formed; it is their basis. Remove this and they will fall. . . .
I wonder if we took a good honest look at ourselves, could we find perhaps that our foundation of morals and manners upon which our society is formed have began to fall, if not already fallen beyond repair?
City Council of Charleston v. S. A. Benjamin, 2 Strob. 521 (Supreme Court of South Carolina 1846.)
The Lord's day, the day of Resurrection, is to us who are called Christians, the day of rest after finishing a new creation. It is the day of the first visible triumph over death, hell and the grave! It was the birth day of the believer in Christ, to whom and through whom it opened up the way which, by repentance and faith, leads unto everlasting life and eternal happiness! On that day we rest, and to us it is the Sabbath of the Lord, its decent observance, in a Christian community, is that which ought to be expected.
Oh my! Expected? Dare we be so bold as to publicly confess such an expectation through our courts and laws? We once did, but I am afraid we have lost that as well!
In this coming election season, many are looking for some reprieve, some hope of returning to our former greatness. Many are looking for that candidate that can bring that hope, to the correct political views that will bring about the needed economic success.
Many are looking to blame the current leadership or the previous leaderships for all our woes; but could the blame lie somewhere else? Perhaps it could lie somewhere within our own hearts. Could it be that within our own hearts we have become selfish and our choices to represent us are an outgrowth of that selfishness that lies within?
This nation came forth from a deep faith in Christianity, but we are rejecting those roots in our society and trying to convince ourselves that our Founders really didn't intend for those roots be so visible among us. We contrive things like "separation of Church and State" to try and sever those roots from us.
Our Founders gave us clear warnings as to the result of such actions and yet we claim we are acting in their spirit. We will try in vain to recover who we are except it be through those same time honored principles that were our beginnings. The only way possible to embrace those principles is through a renewed work of faith in the hearts of our people. God has given us revival before, our nation has been awakened to our purpose before, we must again seek this awakening or forever count ourselves lost to our heritage.
May God bless each of you,
David

This maybe true, but who's gonna be the first to stop in their selfish ways when there is money to be made? Senators? I personally have more faith in my dog than the consistency and moral value of a senator, no matter what state he or she is from. With the need to be reelected, many senators will do anything, even go back on their own personal beliefs, to have the chance to be reelected.
First let me say thanks for responding. That is my point, it is an issue of character in our society, it resides with us and is reflected in those we choose to lead. When we find a politician who will speak straight and tell us the truth, a truth we don’t like or one that will cost us something, or cost our cause something, we vote against them, then vote for someone will tell what we want to hear and promise us everything will be fix and ok and it want cost us or our cause a thing, or at least want damage us and we continue to decline. There have been those before us who have made hard decisions and the people accepted those hard decisions and had the character to sacrifice. I hope we can find that character again.
